Elastomeric Closures for Injecttions

USP chapter 381 and EP (3.2.9) defines standards for the functionality testing of closures intended to be pierced by a hypodermic needle: Penetrability, Fragmentation and Self-Sealing Capacity as well as biological and physiochemical tests. USP <660>/EP 3.2.1

Glass containers for pharmaceutical use

For the purposes of pharmaceutical packaging, three types of glass are defined by USP General Chapter <660> and EP (3.2.1). Type I (borosilicate glass) is suitable for most products for injectable and noninjectable use. Type II is treated soda-lime glass, and Type III is soda-lime glass on the basis of the hydrolytic resistance of the glass. Glass, in the form of ampoules, bottles, cartridges, vials and prefillable syringes, is the container material of choice for injectable products, particularly biopharmaceuticals.
